Germán Díaz was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1986. He started his music studies when he was 8 at the professional conservatory of Tenerife and later he joined the orchestral academy of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

He continued his studies at the Reina Sofia Music School in Madrid under the tutoring of Professor Hansjörg Schellenberger in 2005, where he also received oboe master classes from Alex Klein, Maurice Bourgue, Ingo Goritzki, Albrecht Mayer and Stefan Schilli. Later in 2008, he entered the Chamber Music Institute of Madrid, where he had chamber music lessons with Jaques Zoon, Klaus Thunemann, Radovan Vlatkovich and Eduard Brunner. He was cited by the Reina Sofia School as “Best Student 2009;” this award was given by Queen Sofia of Spain.

In 2009 Germán Díaz joined the academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he had lessons with Stefan Schilli and he played under the baton of conductors David Zinman, Mariss Jansons, David Robertson, Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin David and Andris Nelsons. He has also been invited to perform as principal oboe with the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife, Camerata Salzburg, Musikcollegium Winterthur and Royal Scottish National Orchestra, among others.

Germán Díaz has won several prizes in international oboe Competitions, including Third Prize in the International Oboe Competition Giuseppe Tomassini in Petritoli (Italy, 2010) and Special Prize of the Jury om the International Oboe Competition Gheorghe Dima.

Nowadays, he combines his work as principal oboe of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra with teaching oboe master classes around Europe.
