What happened in the oboe final

The oboe final took place on April 19, 2026 at the Festsaal of Kloster Muri in Switzerland. According to the official finalists and schedule PDF, the three oboists who reached the final were Fedor Osver, Varvara Petrova and Pedro Moreira. All three performed W. A. Mozart’s Oboe Concerto in C major, K. 314.

That matters. When three finalists play the same work, the comparison becomes especially transparent. Mozart immediately reveals sound quality, intonation, lightness of articulation, phrasing and the performer’s serenity. There is not much to hide behind speed or surface virtuosity: every entrance, every breath and every phrase ending counts.

The three oboe prize winners

The result announced by The Muri Competition was Fedor Osver, 1st Prize; Varvara Petrova, 2nd Prize; and Pedro Moreira, 3rd Prize.

They are three young oboists, each with a different path, but with one thing in common: they were already appearing in highly competitive and professional contexts.

A final worth keeping an eye on

The Muri Competition has become an important meeting point for those of us who follow young talent in the international oboe world. The 2026 competition leaves three names to keep close: Fedor Osver, Varvara Petrova and Pedro Moreira. Three different paths, three ways of playing, and all three at a very high level.

From EG-REEDS, congratulations to the three prize-winning finalists and to all the oboists who took part in this edition.
